Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials unveils isSAFE warship tool
The integrated framework links ship modeling, hit scenario generation, vulnerability analysis and result analysis in one design environment.
The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials announced it has developed isSAFE, an integrated framework for analyzing warship survivability, and held the first public demonstration of the system on the morning of October 8 at its Daejeon headquarters, according to etnews.com.
isSAFE brings ship modeling, hit scenario generation, vulnerability analysis and result analysis together into a single design environment, replacing the separate tools and procedures previously used for each survivability analysis element.
The framework supports both uniform and probability-based threat distributions, and uses radar cross section and infrared signature data to generate hit scenarios.
At the demonstration, the institute used a hypothetical frigate-level ship model and compared results for two models fitted with different propulsion systems.
Background
Survivability analysis work has largely depended on foreign software products, with individual analysis elements handled through separate tools and procedures.
Quick answers
What is isSAFE?
isSAFE is an integrated framework developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials for analyzing warship survivability, combining ship modeling, hit scenario generation, vulnerability analysis and result analysis in one design environment.
When was isSAFE first demonstrated publicly?
The first public demonstration was held on the morning of October 8 at the institute's Daejeon headquarters, using a hypothetical frigate-level ship model.
