Korea sets KS standards for water-source heat pumps up to 600RT
Public comment on the draft runs until the 30th of next month; test criteria for units above 1,000RT remain undefined in Korea.
South Korea's National Institute of Technology and Standards has announced a draft Korean Industrial Standards (KS) proposal for water-to-water water-source heat pumps and will collect public comments on it until the 30th of next month, according to etnews.com.
The draft limits testing to products with a rated cooling and heating capacity of 2,110 kW (about 600RT) or less.
No domestic testing or certification standard currently exists for large-capacity heat pumps exceeding 1,000RT.
The existing KS scope for heat pumps covers only units of 150 refrigeration tons (RT) or below, and a prior study conducted 4 years ago did not secure or verify sufficient data on products of 600RT or larger.
Last year, a 1,000RT-class large-capacity water-source heat pump was installed at the Korea Trade Center, the first such installation in the country.
Quick answers
What capacity range does the draft KS cover?
Testing is limited to products with a rated cooling and heating capacity of 2,110 kW (about 600RT) or less.
When does the comment period end?
Comments are being accepted until the 30th of next month.
Is there a Korean standard for heat pumps above 1,000RT?
No. No domestic testing or certification standard has been established for large-capacity heat pumps exceeding 1,000RT.
