KT tests AI classes for seniors living alone in Seongnam

About 20 single-person households aged 60-69 will take a four-week generative AI course from November 6, taught by 45 retired KT employees.

KT will run a four-week pilot generative AI education program for about 20 single-person households aged 60-69 in Seongnam, starting November 6, the company announced. The course is being organized in cooperation with Seongnam's healing space for single-person households, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.

Instruction will be handled by 45 senior IT supporters who are former KT employees. KT said it also selected 9 additional retired senior instructors for the training.

The curriculum was developed in connection with the generative AI course of KT's AICE (AI Certificate for Everyone) program. It consists of 8 sessions: the introductory part covers generative AI concepts and prompt writing, while the advanced part deals with searching for daily life information, telling fake information apart, and making a book from one's own story.

Senior instructors, national plans

KT plans to expand a visiting senior AI education program nationwide based on the results of the pilot.

KT IT Supporters has been operated by KT and the KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation since 2007 to narrow the digital divide. About 150 professional instructors nationwide, including retired employees and women returning from career breaks, currently teach AI coding, ethics, digital device use and voice phishing prevention. In island and remote areas, KT runs a mobile AI experience education center called "AI Station."
