Kukkiwon flags possible data leak from Douzone Bizon backup service

The taekwondo body said Douzone Bizon reported the possible exposure on October 28, and that encrypted backup data was taken via abnormal external access.

Kukkiwon said it was notified by Douzone Bizon on October 28 that some personal information may have been leaked from a backup service used for administrative work, and posted a notice about the possible leak on October 30, according to dailysecu.com.

Data that may have been exposed includes names, birth dates or resident registration numbers, contact details and addresses of employees and of people appointed or awarded by the organization. Bank names and account numbers of some business income earners may also be included.

Douzone Bizon told Kukkiwon that encrypted data was confirmed to have been taken out through abnormal external access to a server related to its backup service, known as APO. The company said the backup data was stored encrypted and that no leak of encryption keys has been found so far.

Douzone Bizon said it shut down the related server, blocked overseas IP access and reported the case to the authorities. Kukkiwon said it is still unconfirmed whether its own data was among what was taken.

Kukkiwon warned people to be wary of suspicious text messages, emails and calls asking for personal or financial information or links.
