Microsoft 365 Family and Premium Shift to Shared 2TB OneDrive Pool

Microsoft will replace per-user 1TB allocations with a shared 2TB pool for Family and Premium, effective October 8 for new subscriptions and upgrades.

Microsoft announced on October 8 that it is changing the cloud storage capacity included with Microsoft 365 plans, replacing the per-user OneDrive allocation with shared storage pools for some tiers, according to forest.watch.impress.co.jp.

Under the new structure, Microsoft 365 Family and Microsoft 365 Premium move from 1TB per user, up to 6TB total, to a single 2TB pool shared among members. Up to six people — the primary subscriber plus up to five additional members — draw from that pool. Separately purchased or free family member storage is automatically added to the shared total.

The shared storage applies to new subscriptions and upgrades starting October 8. Existing Family and Premium subscribers will be moved to the shared model after their first renewal on or after May 2, 2027. Eligible existing subscribers in supported regions may receive free bonus storage at migration, Microsoft said.

Microsoft 365 Pro and over-limit options

Microsoft 365 Pro is priced at 16,000 yen per month and shares 5TB among members, with support for up to five additional members.

Members who exceed their storage limit can still access their files for up to one year and can add storage, with total capacity reaching up to 10TB.
