Modulate raises $25M for voice deepfake detection
Boston voice intelligence startup Modulate has raised $25 million led by Future Ventures to expand its deepfake detection and scam-alerting tools.
Modulate, a Boston-based voice intelligence startup, has raised $25 million in new funding. The round was led by Future Ventures, with participation from Hyperplane and Lakestar.
The company had previously raised $41 million at a $170 million valuation, according to PitchBook. Modulate was founded in 2017 by Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, who met as MIT physics undergraduates.
Modulate began with voice modulation for gaming, but now specializes in deepfake detection and alerting call centers to possible scams. It runs more than 100 models, split between signal extraction models and analysis and detection models.
The company has 40-45 employees and plans to add about 10 more. It is also working on increasing on-premises and on-device deployment capabilities.
