Nvidia Opens AI Security Stack as OpenShell Hits General Release
Nvidia releases OpenShell to all users and details Sentry, a chip-level security domain, plus an Open Agent Safety Platform used by SpaceXAI.
Nvidia is opening up its AI security stack, putting its agentic AI sandbox into general release and detailing a new layer of chip-level protection for long-running agents.
OpenShell, first announced at Nvidia's GTC Conference in March, is now available to all users. The sandbox isolates agent activity in the operating system kernel, keeping autonomous agents from reaching beyond their intended boundaries.
The company also developed Sentry, an isolated security domain for chips that monitors long-running AI agents and can quarantine any agent that tries to move outside its boundaries. Sentry is meant to be implemented on Nvidia's Bluefield data processing units, and Nvidia says it is working with Arm and Intel on a version for the x86 chip architecture.
Together, OpenShell and Sentry make up the Open Agent Safety Platform. Nvidia says SpaceXAI is using the platform for its Cursor agents and Grok models. Salesforce, Scale AI, and SAP are confirmed to be integrating OpenShell.
Nvidia lists AI safety and security collaborations with dozens of tech companies, including Anthropic, Cisco, CoreWeave, CrowdStrike, Dell Technologies, Hugging Face, JPMorganChase, Mistral, Microsoft, and Palantir. OpenAI is not included in that announcement list. In July, Nvidia launched an industry-wide AI safety coalition with more than 120 companies, including a program called the Shared AI Findings Exchange (SAFE).
The push comes as Nvidia moves deeper into enterprise AI infrastructure. The company agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, and Justin Boitano is Nvidia's vice president and general manager of enterprise computing.
