OpenAI has hired Cat Wu, formerly head of product for Anthropic's Claude Code, to lead product management for its Core Products organization. The company confirmed the hire, and Business Insider reported it on November 5, 2026.
Wu announced the move on X on November 5, 2026, saying she had joined OpenAI to lead product management for Core Products. At OpenAI she reports to Chief Product Officer Tibo Sottiaux and works alongside Nick Turley on enterprise products and Ashley Alexander on consumer products, according to aitimes.com.
Her role is expected to cover Codex, ChatGPT and enterprise AI products.
Anthropic ties and earlier moves
Wu joined Anthropic in August 2024 after working at Scale AI and Dagster and as a partner at Index Ventures. In July 2025 she and engineer Boris Cherny moved to Anysphere, the company behind the Cursor AI coding tool, and returned to Anthropic about two weeks later.
Claude Code was released as a research preview in February 2025 and later evolved into an agent that can modify and test code and handle complex software development tasks. Wu also worked on product development for Cowork, which extends AI agent use from coding to general knowledge work such as document writing, data analysis and project management.
OpenAI is reportedly pursuing an acquisition of a code storage and management company to expand Codex into a platform for managing software development overall. In October 2026, Tariq Sihifar of Anthropic's Claude Code development team left the company, and Austin Lau, formerly in growth marketing at Anthropic, reportedly moved to OpenAI.
