Survey: 7 in 10 AI Assistant Calls Include Please or Thank You

A fonio.ai survey also found 12% of respondents apologize to their AI assistant and 2% ask how it is doing.

Seven in 10 calls to AI assistants included a please or thank you, according to survey findings published by fonio.ai and reported by TechRadar. The survey also found that 55% of callers thank the AI at least once.

Greetings were common too: 52% of respondents said they open with a hello, hi or good morning. A smaller share, 12%, said they apologize to their AI assistant, while 2% ask it how it is.

Sign-offs follow the same pattern. According to the findings, 13% say goodbye before ending a conversation, and a further 7% add a farewell such as have a good day or take care.

Politeness has a price tag

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said that users saying thank you costs tens of millions of dollars in electricity bills. In February 2026, a survey of more than 1,000 people by Future PLC found around 70% of people are polite to AI, with 12% doing so in case of a robot uprising.
