Tokyo to accept proxy applications for 11,000-point app program

Relatives and legal guardians can apply on behalf of residents who struggle to use a smartphone, with the window opening on November 4.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on October 23 that family members and other proxies may apply for the 11,000 points offered under the Tokyo App Life Support Program on behalf of people who have difficulty operating a smartphone, such as those with disabilities or dementia. Applications open on November 4 at 10 a.m. and will be accepted until April 1, 2027, according to japan.cnet.com.

Proxy applicants must be legal guardians, such as parents with custody or adult guardians, or a spouse, a relative within the second degree of kinship, or a person in the same household.

Both the registration of the proxy and the application to join the program are handled through the Tokyo App. Identity verification requires a My Number Card for the eligible person and for the proxy.

The Tokyo App itself will be renewed on October 30 at 10 a.m., adding larger buttons, enhanced read-aloud functions and passkey support for logging in without a password. Because users must log in again after the renewal, the metropolitan government is asking them to check their registered email addresses in advance.

The program grants 11,000 points through the Tokyo App to people aged 15 or older who hold a My Number Card and are registered as residents of Tokyo.
