YMTC plans Chinese tools for up to 70% of fourth fab equipment

Reuters reports the Wuhan fab will make NAND with over 300 stacked layers for data center and AI storage, with construction starting next year.

YMTC plans to source at least 60% and up to 70% of the equipment at its fourth fab from Chinese suppliers, Reuters reported on November 6, 2026. The company has so far held only preliminary talks with suppliers and has not placed formal orders for the facility.

The fourth fab will be built in Wuhan, where YMTC is headquartered, with construction scheduled to begin next year. It is intended to produce advanced NAND with more than 300 stacked memory cell layers, aimed at data center and AI storage chips.

The target marks a step up from YMTC's third fab, due to start operation at the end of this year, where the share of Chinese suppliers in equipment purchases is slightly more than half.

Rising share in China's NAND market

According to market research firm Omdia, YMTC's share of the Chinese NAND market rose from 28% last year to 38.5% in the second quarter of this year, overtaking Samsung Electronics to take first place in the country.
