YouTube tests 30-day cleanup option before channel termination

Eligible channels facing immediate termination for certain Spam policy violations can edit, delete content or appeal within 30 days, YouTube says.

YouTube has begun trialling a cleanup option for channels facing immediate termination over certain Spam policy violations, the company says. Instead of being terminated outright, eligible channels can self-correct by editing or removing the content in question.

According to androidpolice.com, eligible creators are notified by email and in YouTube Studio on desktop. Channels given the option have 30 days to make changes.

Creators can fix flagged videos with the Studio Editor, delete the problematic videos, or delete all videos on the channel. Deleting every video immediately unlocks the channel, YouTube says. Creators can also submit an appeal, and the channel is unlocked once the content passes review.

Failing to address the issues within 30 days, or taking no action, leads to channel termination. Channels that recover keep their subscribers, channel handle and YouTube Partner Program status.

The trial follows changes YouTube has made to creator payouts over the past couple of years, including raised payout requirements and lower pay.
