SpaceXSI releases first AI-made 'Odyssey' episode, 'The Oath'

SpaceXSI released the first episode of its Grok Imagine-made Odyssey series, a seven-minute short titled The Oath, on X on October 23, 2026. The video was co-produced by London-based AI video startup Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, according to aitimes.com.

The episode adapts an anecdote from Cypria, a work known as a prequel to the Iliad, in which Odysseus feigns madness to avoid joining the Trojan War but is exposed. Wonder Studios co-founder Javier Collins said a three-person team made the video in under two weeks at a cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, and that Elon Musk did not instruct the team to make an anti-woke film; the focus, Collins said, was testing AI technology's potential.

Reviews were mixed. Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw gave the video 1 out of 5 stars, criticizing dramatic scenes that follow one another without clear motivation or meaning. Per Wired, Grok acknowledged that the film it was used to make is not historically accurate, citing clothing and architecture inconsistent with ancient Greece.

Production prompts published

On October 27, 2026, SpaceXSI published the production process and prompts used for the episode. According to the guide, the crew wrote a script, designed camera position, lens, movement and dialogue per scene, and built front, back and face reference images for consistency. The prompts specified characters' appearance and costumes as well as shooting composition, lighting and film stock, and the crew reviewed multiple generations for continuity.

Grok Imagine said the project's goal is to collect filmmakers' criticism and use it to improve its image and video generation models. A small crew of three to five people is currently making the short series, and later episodes will run longer to better express characters and story, with Collins saying criticism of the first work will be reviewed to improve historical accuracy and storytelling.
