The anime film We Are Aliens has won an award at the Hawai'i International Film Festival, according to animenewsnetwork.com. The prize honors an international filmmaker's first or second feature.

The film follows Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, childhood friends who drifted apart and later face their past. Ryōta Bandō voices the adult Tsubasa and Amane Okayama voices the adult Gyōtarō, while child actors Yūto Maki and Tasuku Nakagome voice the younger versions of the two characters.

The Hawai'i award adds to a run of festival recognition. Last month the Ottawa International Animation Festival gave the film its Grand Prize for Animated Feature, and earlier this month it took the Anima't Award for best feature-length film at Sitges.

On October 25 the film received Special Mentions in the Alice nelle città section of the 21st Rome Film Festival and an Honorable Mention at the 35th Philadelphia Film Festival.
