AMD brings FSR 4.1 upscaling to Xbox Series X/S and RX 6000 cards

AMD says its machine-learning upscaler now reaches Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, Ryzen laptops and handhelds.

AMD announced on October 20, 2026 that FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1, its machine-learning-based upscaling technology, will be supported on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, according to game.donga.com.

The company said support is also expanding to Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, Ryzen-based laptops and handheld gaming devices.

FSR 4.1 uses a neural network trained on high-quality game footage to reconstruct missing detail rather than only stretching a lower-resolution image. AMD says the approach reduces ghosting behind moving objects and flickering on thin objects and shiny surfaces, and improves detail in small particle effects compared with FSR 3.1.

The company noted that FSR 4.1 upscaling is separate from frame generation, which it offers as a distinct feature.

What changes for players

FSR 3.1, the earlier version of the upscaling technology that FSR 4.1 improves upon, was the previous baseline for image quality in AMD's upscaling lineup. The new version's move to consoles and older RX 6000 cards widens the hardware that can run the machine-learning model.

Quick answers

What is FSR 4.1?

FSR 4.1 is AMD's machine-learning-based upscaling technology, which uses a neural network trained on high-quality game footage to reconstruct missing image detail.

Which devices will support FSR 4.1?

AMD said support is coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles, Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, Ryzen-based laptops and handheld gaming devices.

Is FSR 4.1 the same as frame generation?
