Anthropic adds Claude Code rules against recreating existing games
Anthropic staffer Addy Osmani said the prompt change targets IP infringement and that original games should still be possible.
Anthropic has added instructions to its AI development tool Claude Code telling it not to recreate a specific existing game, the company's technical staff member Addy Osmani said on X. According to news.denfaminicogamer.jp, the change applies to Claude Code running on Opus 5.5.
Osmani said two sentences were added to Claude Code's prompt. The reason, he said, is that using Claude to infringe intellectual property violates the company's usage policy.
He added that original games, games within a genre, and games built from a user's own designs and assets are still meant to be possible with Claude Code.
Osmani said Anthropic will keep improving the balance and asked users to report cases where Claude refused work that was their own.
Earlier demo pulled amid imitation concerns
In October 2025, game company Alliance Arts announced it would cancel the public release of the demo for its upcoming game PUKEY GODDESS SHOT TRICK and switch it to a closed, limited-participant trial. The company cited the possibility that works imitating the game with AI could appear before the full release.
