Bungie outlines Destiny 2 unvaulting, Legacy update and Celebration
Unvaulting enters production in February 2027, and Bungie says the work could take about 12 months and slide into 2028.
Bungie has published its October Community Update for Destiny 2, setting out a timeline for upcoming content, including an unvaulting process that is currently in pre-production. According to gamerant.com, the studio said the unvaulting will enter production in February 2027.
Bungie said the unvaulted content has no release date yet and that the work could take about 12 months, sliding into 2028. A new progress bar will be released in February that may include a release target and updated goals.
The studio also announced a Destiny 2 Celebration event, described as a way to celebrate the game beyond the Monument of Triumph update, along with a Destiny Legacy update that serves the franchise's decade-long experience where players play today.
The Menagerie is returning to Destiny 2 with new rewards and reprised, updated gear. Bungie also said it is hiring again for Destiny 2. Josh Dean and Studio Head Poria Torkan wrote that they want to retell the whole franchise story before working on sequels or spin-offs.
Earlier plans and the decision to resume
Destiny 2 was supposed to receive a new expansion this year called Shattered Cycle, but Bungie instead announced it would cease all support for the game after a final update in June. After months of players asking for the game to continue, including a Sony State of Play showcase where chat was taken over by requests for Destiny 3, Bungie announced in September that it would resume work on the franchise and said the first step would be unvaulting all Destiny 2 content, including campaigns, DLC stories, Raids and locations.
