DORF Reworks Suppression With Squad-Wide System Inspired by Menace
DORFteam's developer update also outlines a planned squad-reinforcement system and new Empire units, including a Machine Gunner and a Medium Tank.
DORFteam has published a developer update explaining how DORF is reworking infantry suppression, according to pcgamesn.com. The studio is designing a suppression system inspired by Menace, the turn-based tactics game from Overhype Studios, in which certain weapons fill a meter that forces infantry to the ground.
In the current DORF build, infantry falls prone when attacked by certain weapons, a behaviour modelled on the original Command and Conquer. Under the proposed system, suppression applies to the whole squad: suppressed squads will crawl, have reduced accuracy and gain better protection against most weapons.
The update also outlined a planned squad-reinforcement system built on recruit resources and recruit-storing buildings. Proposed fixes include reducing the range of recruit buildings and giving them a small storage size.
DORFteam additionally plans squad leaders and followers or section leaders per squad, drawing on a Relic document about Company of Heroes.
New Empire units
On the faction side, DORF's Empire gains a Machine Gunner for basic rifle squads, an infantry academy annex upgrade that swaps Machine Gunners for Mortars, and a Chemical Gas Sprayer upgrade for Empire Grenadiers. New vehicles shown include a Medium Tank for the Empire.
In April, DORF's Kickstarter campaign passed its goal, funding another programmer and co-op campaign support.
