Rockstar: GTA 6 map nears GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined

Rockstar North co-studio lead Aaron Garbut told Edge the game also has an order of magnitude more interiors than earlier Rockstar titles.

Rockstar North co-studio lead Aaron Garbut said Grand Theft Auto 6's map is nearly as large as Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, in an interview with Edge. He added that the game has an order of magnitude more interiors than previous Rockstar releases.

Garbut told the magazine that every back alley in the game is as densely detailed as the others, and that players can go to any random location and find it deliberately designed. He said that after years of development he is still finding new things in the game.

Edge reported that the homes of strangers in Grand Theft Auto 6 are decorated with details such as photographs on walls and clutter in living rooms and kitchens.

Scale claims are a familiar marketing line

The comments echo earlier scale promises from other studios. While marketing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda boss Todd Howard said the mountain was not just a backdrop and that players could walk to its top. Last year, Randy Pitchford made a similar scale claim about Borderlands 4.
