Canada petition seeks public funds for BioWare to leave EA

A petition sponsored by MP Don Davies gathered 2,861 signatures, above the 500 needed to be presented to the House of Commons.

A Canadian resident has launched a government petition calling on Ottawa to provide BioWare with capital so the studio can secure independence and ownership of its intellectual property, IGN reports. The petition, e-7898, was initiated by Brendan Routh of Burnaby, British Columbia.

Vancouver Kingsway MP Don Davies sponsored the petition, which had gathered 2,861 signatures at the time of writing, above the 500 required for it to be presented to the House of Commons.

In a post on Bluesky, Davies argued that BioWare's developers should get the first opportunity and federal support to buy and run the studio themselves.

Background

The petition comes after EA shut down BioWare a couple of weeks before the article. A fan-made change.org petition to save the studio reached 300,000 signatures and stood at 307,000 at the time of writing, and a little over a week before the article Canadian politician Avi Lewis spoke out about the closure and floated government help for BioWare's independence.
