Circana: 29% of US gamers plan to buy Grand Theft Auto 6

Circana says Rockstar's title is the most anticipated release in its tracking history, with demand expected to lift console and accessory sales.

Circana research has found that 29% of gamers in the United States, across console and PC, intend to purchase Grand Theft Auto 6, according to gamesradar.com. The market research and consumer behavior advisor also says the Rockstar Games title is the most anticipated video game release in its tracking history.

Mat Piscatella, an analyst and lead at Circana, said demand for the game is expected to extend beyond software sales to consoles, accessories and gaming subscriptions. He said many consumers who have not upgraded to a current-generation console may buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series specifically to play the title.

Piscatella added that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a major driver of software sales, hardware upgrades and gaming-related tech purchases in the fourth quarter, as retailers prepare for Black Friday and holiday demand.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will not launch on PC storefronts at release.
