Resident Evil Storyline to End Within 10 Years, Producer Says
Jun Takeuchi says Requiem closes Capcom's original ten-year plan and several more titles are planned before the saga concludes.
Capcom plans to bring the overarching narrative of Resident Evil to a conclusion within the next 10 years, executive producer Jun Takeuchi said in an interview with Yahoo Japan. Several more titles are planned in that timeframe before the story reaches its end, he said.
Takeuchi said Resident Evil Requiem marks the end of the studio's original ten-year plan, which began during planning for the Resident Evil 2 remake. Polygon reported his comments.
According to Takeuchi, the order in which the remakes are released carries a meaning that players will understand if they play through all of them. The Code Veronica remake is arriving after the Resident Evil 4 remake, reversing the release order of the original games, and it will adjust elements of the original to fit current canon.
He pointed to the true nature of Oswell Spencer as part of the series' current overarching narrative. Spencer, the founder of Umbrella, has been dead since Resident Evil 5 and returned through flashbacks in Requiem.
Resident Evil is marking its 30th anniversary in 2026, the same year Requiem launched and brought back familiar characters including Leon Kennedy.
