Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever leads game pad support push

Holly Longdale said game pad support will start with Forever as Blizzard aims to let players access the game on any device, but no Xbox version is confirmed.

Blizzard executive producer Holly Longdale said World of Warcraft: Forever will be the starting point for game pad support, with the long-term goal of letting players play the game wherever and on whatever device they want, according to gamesradar.com. No console version of Forever has been confirmed, and the game has not been announced for Xbox.

Longdale said the first step is making game pad support work well in World of Warcraft, beginning with Forever. She said the work is intended to give players flexibility beyond consoles.

She pointed to platforms becoming more ubiquitous, citing Xbox Project Helix, and noted that players are already running World of Warcraft: Forever on handheld devices such as the ROG Ally X and a modded Nintendo DS.

Platform plans remain unconfirmed

Despite the broader ambitions, Blizzard has not confirmed World of Warcraft: Forever for Xbox. Longdale's comments describe a direction for game pad support rather than an announced console release.

World of Warcraft: Forever is positioned as a new entry point to the 22-year-old MMORPG. Microsoft owns Blizzard, and Xbox's 'play anywhere' program lets players play Xbox games on console, PC and handheld without buying them separately.
