Donkey Kong sales flyer artwork sells for nearly $330,000

The flyer illustration by Leslie Carbaga came from the collection of former Nintendo advertising director Donna Darbous and more than doubled its estimate.

The original artwork for the Donkey Kong arcade sales flyer sold at auction for almost $330,000, more than double the estimated final bid price. The sale was reported by GameSpot.

The illustration was created by Leslie Carbaga and was part of a collection belonging to Donna Darbous, a former Nintendo advertising director.

Landry Pop Auctions handled the sale, which also included other Nintendo memorabilia: an early Mario Christmas card image, Disney-themed Game & Watch artwork, a Punch-Out boxing glove signed by Mike Tyson and rare black box NES games.

About 45 years ago, the flyer, featuring a cartoon illustration, was produced to sell the game cabinet to arcade operators. The artwork was originally slated for the dumpster when a Nintendo storage room was being cleaned out, but Darbous took it home and stored it away, only recently rediscovering it.
