Ed Boon Polls Fans on Next Mortal Kombat Title and Marvel Crossover
The NetherRealm developer asked followers on X/Twitter what the next Mortal Kombat game should be called and which Marvel fighting game they want.
Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat and a developer at NetherRealm Studios, published two polls on X/Twitter on November 6, 2026, asking fans about the future of the fighting series, according to ign.com.
The first poll asked what the next Mortal Kombat game should be called, offering three options: Mortal Kombat 13, Mortal Kombat 12 and Mortal Kombat 2. Mortal Kombat 2 drew 43% of the vote, Mortal Kombat 13 took 33% and Mortal Kombat 12 received 23%.
The second poll asked whether fans would rather see Marvel Tokon 2, a hypothetical sequel from Arc System Works, or Marvel vs Capcom 4 next. The majority of voters chose Marvel vs Capcom 4.
What Boon has said before
In May 2026, Boon confirmed that the next Mortal Kombat game was officially in the works, after Mortal Kombat 1 stopped receiving new content updates in May 2025. In September, he responded to rumours that NetherRealm was testing Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13 and/or Mortal Kombat 9, calling them all false.
Rumours of an Injustice 3 game had surfaced earlier this year, including stunt performer resumes listing it and reports of playtests.
