German Course Offers Paid Leave to Play GTA 6
A Berlin-based provider's state-funded Bildungsurlaub course runs November 18-20, a day before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches.
A German educational course provider is offering a state-funded course that gives participants three days of paid learning leave to play Grand Theft Auto 6, according to IGN. The course runs online from November 18 to 20, with the game launching on November 19.
The course, titled "Open World Games: Lessons from a Digital World," is open to 60 participants and is offered under Germany's Bildungsurlaub system, which allows workers paid time off for approved further education. An additional in-person event is planned in Berlin.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and have access to a device and a licensed open-world game. Carlo Dreschel, founder of course provider Dein Bildungsurlaub, is quoted about the course's approach.
Victoria, a 23-year-old accountant from Berlin, has signed up for the course, IGN reported. Grand Theft Auto 6 is developed by Rockstar Games and launches on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Leave requests around the launch
Estimates cited in earlier coverage pointed to a 17% increase in time-off requests for the game's launch date. In July, a flyer from the 9th Engineer Battalion in Fort Stewart, Georgia went viral for offering recruits a four-day pass to play Grand Theft Auto 6 as a reenlistment incentive, and Australia's workplace regulator published a graphic on paid leave rights ahead of the launch.
