Yoshida details FFXIV's Zephyr job and Silver Wanderer changes
In an interview after day one of the Tokyo fan festival, the producer said Zephyr is a pet-based ranged DPS and existing roulettes will be reorganized.
Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of Final Fantasy XIV, gave new details on the game's next job and expansion in a media interview following the first day of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Tokyo on October 31, according to game.watch.impress.co.jp. The keynote that opened the event ran for more than two hours.
Yoshida said Zephyr, the new job, is a ranged physical DPS whose mechanics differ from those of Bard, Machinist and Dancer. It is a pet job, built around fighting alongside a pet or handling it in combat. In the 8.0 expansion, the familiar will be hawk-type only, and customization has not been decided.
The familiar also allows the player to ride it to move around. Yoshida said this movement can be used at will and offers a clear advantage over normal movement, though he withheld further details. He added that a job-specific Hall of the Novice is in progress and announced new content called Gauntlet of Power.
On the Silver Wanderer expansion, Yoshida said the job's name relates to Norse mythology terms and that the expansion itself is heavily inspired by Norse mythology. He advised players to recall the shard worlds before playing its story.
Existing content roulettes will remain but be significantly reorganized, with fewer categories, Yoshida said; the changes will be explained at the pre-launch Producer Letter LIVE. He also said the character Ritatyn was not conceived as a Bastion, and that Bastion's origins lie in the northern part of Ilsabard.
