GEO suspends online services after confirming unauthorized access
GEO and parent Second Retailing halted GEO Online for emergency maintenance from 21:00 on October 17; the end date is undetermined.
GEO and its parent company Second Retailing have suspended GEO Online and other apps and web services for emergency maintenance, starting at 21:00 on October 17, after confirming unauthorized access to their internal systems. The company announced the move in a notice carried by gamespark.jp.
According to the company, the unauthorized access by a third party was confirmed on October 15, 2026. GEO said the maintenance had no fixed end date at the time of writing and that it is investigating the cause and the scope of the impact together with an external security organization.
On the GEO Online store, new orders and order cancellations are suspended. Orders placed before the maintenance began will still be shipped, the company said.
In-store operations are not affected: sales, buyback and rental at GEO and GEO Mobile stores continue as normal, though some procedures require a Ponta card.
GEO has not disclosed whether personal information leaked or what attack method was used. Any connection to other incidents is unclear.

On October 9, 2026, Book Off Group announced that personal information had leaked after unauthorized access to its membership management system. A day earlier, on October 8, JPCERT/CC issued an alert about a series of information leaks caused by unauthorized access to domestic organizations.
