Lucasfilm Games wants more smaller-scale Star Wars titles
Vice president Douglas Reilly said a studio does not need to be a top-five publisher to make a Star Wars game, in an interview with The Game Business.
Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly said the company wants to support more smaller-scale Star Wars games beyond its blockbuster releases, in an interview with The Game Business. Reilly said good Star Wars game ideas can come from many places, and a studio need not be a top-five publisher to make one.
The comments follow the reception of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, developed by Fuse Games, and Star Wars Zero Company, developed by Bit Reactor. Reilly pointed to both titles in setting out the company's interest in projects at different scales.
He said Lucasfilm Games typically works with experienced teams that have a track record, but that it is exploring projects large and small with partners that will surprise people.
Wider Star Wars pipeline
In October 2025, EA's deal with Disney made the publisher the priority partner for Star Wars games, producing DICE's Battlefront revival and Respawn's Star Wars Jedi series. Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft fell short of expectations.
Fuse Games was originally founded by former Criterion staff with prior Lucasfilm experience on the original Battlefront series, while Bit Reactor is made up of former XCOM staff. Other Star Wars projects remain in the works, including Fate of the Old Republic, another Jedi game from Respawn and a paused Knights of the Old Republic remake.
