Speedrunners Find Chest-Launch Glitch in Ocarina of Time Remake

Runners are cataloguing early glitches in the new Ocarina of Time remake, including a chest launch and a child-Link Shadow Temple route.

Speedrunners are finding glitches in the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which released this week, according to Kotaku. Among the tricks catalogued so far is one that launches the player out of open chests when Link's feet are positioned inside them at a certain angle. Dropping a bomb in an open chest appears to help with the chest launch trick.

Runner Vespher posted a clip of the chest launch. ORCinfo reported that flipping between items in the inventory while midair makes Link float, allowing endless midair jumps. The Hookshot Jump also appears to be viable in the remake, which adds a jump button letting Link jump without running off a ledge.

Child Link in the Shadow Temple

Zfg1 reports that the Shadow Temple can be beaten as child Link, which automatically turns the player into adult Link. Triggering adult Link cutscenes as child Link, and the reverse, briefly confuses the remake and distorts Link's textures.

Zfg1 says one roadblock remains before the child-Link Shadow Temple trick can be used in a speedrun.

The original Ocarina of Time was rendered in 1998; in that version the boomerang can rewrite item placement. Breath of the Wild also lets Link jump rather than only running off cliffs.
