Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Remake Removes Cucco Minigame Cheat

The remake also patches out the Hyrule Castle drawbridge rupee exploit, while the Deku stick butterfly trick still works.

The Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time no longer allows players to cheat at the Cucco minigame at Lon Lon Ranch, according to kotaku.com. Cuccos can also no longer be stuck in the corner behind Talon next to the stairs.

In the remake, Talon shuffles all the Cuccos in the room when the minigame is started, closing off the setup that made the three special Cuccos easy to spot. The Switch 2 version also has faster controls for picking up and putting down Cuccos.

The rupee exploit of climbing the chains on Hyrule Castle's drawbridge no longer works either, so that source of extra rupees is gone from the remake.

Some tricks survive

Not every old shortcut has been closed. Hitting butterflies with a Deku stick to turn them into fairies still works in the remake.

In the original Ocarina of Time, players could beat the Cucco minigame by moving every Cucco behind Talon before starting, which made the three special birds obvious. On November 5, 2026, social media user Riz. posted that the butterfly-to-fairy trick with a Deku stick was kept in the remake.
