BioWare co-founder Trent Oster backs #SaveMassEffect as petition nears 300,000

Oster said he loves the energy around the campaign and wants to get some of the original band back together, according to GamesRadar.

BioWare co-founder Trent Oster has publicly backed the #SaveMassEffect movement, saying he loves the energy around the campaign and believes there is still a strong case for a well-funded RPG developer, according to GamesRadar. The campaign's Change.org petition is close to reaching 300,000 signatures.

Oster, a veteran developer who directed Neverwinter Nights and worked on early BioWare RPGs including Baldur's Gate, said the support makes him want to get some of the original band back together.

He also pointed to the sales numbers for Baldur's Gate 3, suggesting they may have had an effect on the RPG genre. By the time the first Mass Effect was released in 2007, Oster was director of technology at BioWare.

A separate petition from the same organizers, seeking acknowledgment from the Canadian government, reached a major milestone on the day the report was published.
