Vermeij: AI-made GTA 6 PC ports may push Rockstar to act
The former Rockstar Games North technical director told RockPaperShotgun an AI-generated PC port could cost tens of thousands of dollars in tokens.
Obbe Vermeij, a former technical director at Rockstar Games North, said generative AI could make it possible for someone to convert the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto 6 to PC, and that the risk could push Rockstar to release a PC version sooner, according to an interview with RockPaperShotgun.
Vermeij said such an AI-made port would likely cost tens of thousands of dollars in tokens and take many hours of compute.
He said he would not be surprised if Rockstar tried to bring its releases closer together to counter that risk, while adding that he does not know the studio's actual plans for GTA 6.
Over the past few months, AI videos using Grand Theft Auto 6 footage have drawn millions of views on social media, including edits made with Nvidia's DLSS5.
