Blizzard Patch Nerfs Mage and Druid Ahead of World of Warcraft: Forever Launch

Frost Blast is removed from the Mage spellbook and the Feral Druid tree is reworked with Berserk cut, roughly three days before the November 4 release.

Blizzard Entertainment pushed a new patch for World of Warcraft: Forever that significantly reduces the power of the Mage and Druid classes, a little over three days before the game launches on November 4. The changes were reported by gamerant.com.

For Mages, Frost Blast has been removed from the spellbook. Ice Lance gains a damage buff but now carries an 8-second cooldown, and Critical Mass drops from a 10% critical strike chance bonus to 6%. The Arcane Focus talent is gone, with part of its effect moved into the Precision talent in the Frost tree, which now provides up to 6% hit chance with all spells.

Druids see the larger rework: the Feral talent tree has been rebuilt to further separate Cat Form and Bear Form play, and Berserk has been removed entirely. Two new capstone talents, Primal Bite and Shifting Power, take its place.

Moonkin Form's critical strike aura now grants 3% crit to all spells and attacks, and Leader of the Pack has been changed to apply the same effect. The Tauren's Endurance passive now grants only 5% health, losing its extra 1% hit chance or 2% critical damage bonus.

Paladins received adjustments across all three specializations, while Warriors saw changes to low Rage generation. The patch follows a beta period that closed a little over a week before the report.

Older balance context

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's "Classic Plus" game, built around horizontal progression with no level cap increase. It lets players create Undead Paladins for the first time and adds the new Skyborne race. A previous round of buffs and nerfs made the Human Mage arguably the strongest pick for the class, and Hunters were hit substantially in an earlier datamined set of changes.
