CD Projekt Red thanks BioWare on The Witcher's 19th anniversary
The studio said The Witcher would not have been possible without BioWare, which lent it the Aurora Engine and gave it a spot at E3.
CD Projekt Red posted a message on 26 أكتوبر 2026 marking the 19th anniversary of the release of the first The Witcher game, thanking BioWare for its direct support in making the title. The studio said the game would not have been possible without BioWare's help.
In the message, CD Projekt Red credited BioWare with lending it the Aurora Engine and sharing knowledge, and with giving the studio a spot at its E3 booth. The post was reported by gamesradar.com.
The Aurora Engine had previously been used to create Neverwinter Nights. A year after licensing it, CD Projekt Red flew to Edmonton to demonstrate the Aurora-powered Witcher to BioWare's heads, and BioWare invited the studio to show the game at a shared E3 booth alongside Jade Empire.
The relationship between the two studios goes back further. In a 2017 interview with NoClip, CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński recalled that Poland's PC games market was once dominated by piracy. CD Projekt published a Polish localization of Baldur's Gate, and 18,000 units had been ordered before the game even hit the market; it sold 50,000 units within the first year in Poland.
