Blizzard: Alts Are Core to World of Warcraft: Forever Progression

Blizzard developers say the Legacy System and future content are designed to reward players who level multiple characters in World of Warcraft: Forever.

Blizzard developers have explained that playing multiple characters, or alts, is a core part of the progression plans for World of Warcraft: Forever, according to pcgamer.com.

The Legacy System awards achievement-style points for major accomplishments, which can then be spent on talent-tree-style quality of life improvements. Because lower-level achievements require less time investment, creating multiple characters makes it easier to accumulate Legacy points quickly.

Blizzard also plans to add new profession items, leveling dungeons and new areas in future patches. Since the level cap in World of Warcraft: Forever does not change, the new content will target different level bands.

In the interviews, Ion Hazzikostas said an account-wide bank is something he could see adding in the not-too-distant future.

Launch and legacy context

World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4. In October 2025, Holly Longdale said the game is expected to be Warcraft's flavor of choice for people joining the game for the first time, while Kris Zierhut said he created elaborate spreadsheets to guess what progression-minded players would choose for amassing Legacy points.
