Allen Family Capital Sells Entire Starz Stake for About $45 Million
The Beverly Hills family office offloaded 1.8 million Starz shares between August 9 and September 29, according to an SEC filing disclosed on the company's earnings call.
Allen Family Capital, the Beverly Hills-based family office of Byron Allen, has sold its entire stake in Starz Entertainment, according to an SEC filing disclosed on Thursday during the company's quarterly earnings call with CEO Jeff Hirsch and analysts.
The filing shows the shares were sold in tranches between August 9 and September 29 at prices ranging from about $21 to $27 per share. Allen acquired the 1.8 million Starz shares for about $25 million and sold them for about $45 million.
The sale marks an exit from a position that drew attention earlier this year. In March 2026, Byron Allen, founder and CEO of Allen Media Group, unveiled that he had acquired a 10.7% stake in Starz, prompting the company to put a poison pill in place just after the move.
Starz shares were up 86% year to date at the time of the filing. The streaming and linear channel company separated from Lionsgate Studios in 2025.
Separately, in May 2026, Allen Family Digital closed a deal to acquire a majority stake in Buzzfeed, with Byron Allen becoming chairman and CEO. Last year, Allen sold 10 local TV stations to Gray Media for $171 million.
