Errol Morris Holds Unseen Two-Hour Elizabeth Holmes Interview
The filmmaker told Variety the Theranos founder sat for an Interrotron interview at the height of her success and that no one outside his office has seen it.
Errol Morris has an unseen two-hour interview with Elizabeth Holmes sitting in his archive, and he is considering releasing it as an unedited film. The filmmaker told Variety that he recorded the conversation on his Interrotron while the Theranos founder was at the height of her success.
According to Morris, nobody outside himself and his office has seen the footage. He said he is sincerely interested in putting the full two hours out as a film, without cuts.
The interview has its origins in 2015, when Holmes hired Morris to shoot a series of advertisements for Theranos. Morris long tried to make his own documentary about Holmes, but the project stalled while she faced indictment and extensive litigation.
Morris watches Gibney's film for the first time
Morris said he recently watched Alex Gibney's 2019 documentary “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley” for the first time and found that he appears in it. Parts of the Theranos advertising outtakes he shot are used in the Gibney film, he said.
He also said he has been unable to obtain a screener for “You Can See Everything,” the documentary on Holmes co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. Morris's own credits include “The Thin Blue Line” and “The Fog of War.”
