Father's House documentary premieres at Tallinn Black Nights

The hybrid film about the Danish sect Faderhuset, starring Trine Dyrholm, opens the Doc@PÖFF competition before a Nov. 19 Danish release.

Father's House, a hybrid documentary about the Danish Christian sect Faderhuset, has its world premiere on Monday in the Doc@PÖFF International Competition program at the 30th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, according to hollywoodreporter.com.

The film is written and directed by Adam Nielsen, Andreas Koefoed and Eva Mulvad, with Nielsen also serving as editor. Trine Dyrholm portrays Ruth Evensen, now Ruth Kristiansen, who led the sect in the 1990s, while David Dencik plays former sect member Jerry.

Camera Film will release Father's House in Danish cinemas on Nov. 19. DR Sales is handling sales on the film.

Camilla Johnson's story behind the film

Camilla Johnson, a former Faderhuset member who spent seven years in the sect and later founded the NGO InsideOut, is portrayed in the film by Laura Kronborg Kjær. Her path to the project began about 10 years before the article, when she first told her story and met director Eva Mulvad; after writing her second book, Johnson was contacted by Mulvad about making a documentary together.

The sect closed as a religious congregation in 2013, with leaders and members moving abroad.
