Golden Possum Options Jane Howatt Memoir 'Jigsaw & Jane' for TV
UK indie Golden Possum Productions, run by Naomi Harvey, has acquired Jane Howatt's memoir about LAPD detective John St. John for television. The project is in development.
Golden Possum Productions has optioned Jane Howatt's book Jigsaw & Jane: Thirteen Years of Murder and Mayhem with Badge Number One for television, according to Deadline. The UK indie's adaptation is in development, with further creative attachments to be announced.
The project tells the story of detective John St. John through Howatt, who spent 13 years alongside him. St. John was known as Jigsaw John and carried Detective Badge No. 1 during a career with the Los Angeles Police Department that spanned 50 years. His cases included the Freeway Killer investigation and the Black Dahlia case.
Howatt's connection to the story dates to 1982, when, at 35, she was a suburban mother and aspiring writer. She read about St. John receiving the LAPD's Distinguished Service Medal and called him to ask about writing a book.
Fifty years before this article, NBC aired Jigsaw John, a crime procedural based on St. John's life and career and starring Jack Warden.
Golden Possum Productions is run by UK producer Naomi Harvey. Last week, Deadline reported that the company had found a writer for its TV pilot adaptation of John Ryan's book America's Trial: Torture and the 9/11 Case.
