James Gunn: Waller Series Never Greenlit, Still in Development

The DC Studios co-head said on the studio's official podcast that he has plans for Amanda Waller if Viola Davis wants to continue in the role.

James Gunn said the Waller series was never greenlit because it did not reach the stage he and the studio wanted, though the project is not entirely out of development. The DC Studios co-head made the comments during the DC Studios Showcase: The Official Podcast, as reported by comingsoon.net.

Gunn added that he has plans for Amanda Waller, the character played by Viola Davis, if Davis wants to continue in the role. No production schedule or release date has been announced for the series.

Waller was announced as part of DC Studios' initial plans for its shared universe. In August 2026, TheWrap reported the series was no longer in primary development as the studio focused on other projects.

Within the on-screen story, Peacemaker Season 1 saw Leota Adebayo expose her mother Amanda Waller's operations, undermining Waller's position. Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, later took over Waller's role. Gunn has confirmed that Davis's Amanda Waller remains part of the new DCU, alongside King Shark and Weasel.
