Lionsgate, Meta Team for 3D 'Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'

The converted film arrives in theaters November 20 and will later be available on Meta's $1,299 VR glasses when they launch in the spring.

Lionsgate and Meta have partnered to convert The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping to 3D ahead of its November 20 theatrical release, according to Variety. The 3D conversion was carried out with DNEG.

The deal marks the first time Meta has worked with a studio on a 2D-to-3D film conversion. The 3D version is also set to be available on Meta's new $1,299 VR glasses when they release in the spring.

Director Francis Lawrence said the 3D adaptation gives audiences another way to experience Joseph Zada's Haymitch Abernathy.

In September, Meta unveiled its VR glasses at Meta Connect, promising immersive versions of Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope, plus 3D versions of The Avengers, Black Panther and select Lionsgate titles.
