BioWare documentary 'Massive Effect' heads to 2027 festival circuit

Fennessey Films and Score G Productions announced the Super Channel-commissioned documentary, featuring interviews with dozens of BioWare staff and alumni.

Fennessey Films and Score G Productions have announced a documentary titled Massive Effect: The BioWare Story, about the Edmonton-based studio BioWare. The film was commissioned by Canadian broadcaster Super Channel, according to Bleeding Cool.

No release date has been set. The producers plan to submit the documentary to film festivals for the 2027 circuit.

The film features interviews with dozens of employees and former developers covering BioWare's history and games including Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate. The production team was given access to BioWare two years ago and filmed with the studio during that period.

Writer and director Akash Sherman described the documentary as a valediction following the studio's recent closure. BioWare was closed by Electronic Arts before the announcement; the production had already begun filming before Dragon Age: The Veilguard released, before the Anthem servers shut down and before the EA buyout was announced.
