Ramayana: Rise of a Legend Draws Lord of the Rings Comparisons After LA Premiere
Early reactions to Nitesh Tiwari's epic praised Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, while one reviewer said the film favors spectacle over emotion.
First reactions to Ramayana: Rise of a Legend appeared online after the film's Los Angeles premiere on October 27, 2026, with several viewers comparing Nitesh Tiwari's adaptation of the Indian epic to The Lord of the Rings, according to comingsoon.net.
Entertainment journalist Rama called Ranbir Kapoor's performance "sublime" and Yash's turn as Ravana "magnetic," while reviewer Theresa Simoni said Kapoor's work moved her to tears. Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Yash plays Ravana and Sai Pallavi plays Sita.
Not all of the early response was positive. Venky Reviews said the film prioritises spectacle over emotional storytelling and that the second half drags in places, adding that the musical blend of AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, spanning Indian and Hollywood styles, largely backfires.
Sai Pallavi, speaking around the premiere, said Ravana is not all bad and that people should spot the Ravana in themselves.
Worldwide release set for November 5
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend opens worldwide on November 5, 2026, across more than 100 countries. Sony Pictures handles international distribution, while Dharma Productions distributes the film domestically.
