AccuLaser Signs Multimillion-Dollar TGV Equipment Deal with Chinese Glass Substrate Maker

AccuLaser will supply through-glass via equipment to a Major Chinese Glass substrate manufacturer, with the tools also set for the customer's 2027 mass-production investment.

AccuLaser, a South Korean laser equipment company, announced on October 15 that it has signed a multimillion-dollar contract to supply through-glass via (TGV) equipment to a Major Chinese Glass substrate manufacturer, according to bloter.net.

The equipment applies AccuLaser's own laser micromachining technology, which drills directly through Glass rather than the laser modification method used by European companies. It can form ultra-fine through-Holes with diameters of 0.5 to 1.5 micrometers, and a related patent has been filed.

The tools will also be applied to the customer's large-scale mass-production investment starting in 2027, the company said. AccuLaser plans to expand its TGV equipment lineup within the year with chemical etching equipment and through-Hole inspection equipment.

AccuLaser said it is in talks to supply equipment to multiple companies in Europe and the US in addition to China. TGV is a technology that drills fine Holes in Glass substrates and forms electrodes to connect electrical signals between the top and bottom of the substrate.

Glass substrates are drawing attention as a next-generation semiconductor packaging material for enabling fine circuits and reducing power loss.
