Anthropic Renames Max Tiers and Drops 5-Hour Limit for Ultra

Anthropic's $100 and $200 plans become Max and Ultra at unchanged prices, and verified Ultra users can work until their weekly cap.

Anthropic has renamed its Max 5x plan to Max and its Max 20x plan to Ultra, keeping the monthly prices at $100 and $200 respectively, according to aitimes.com. The company also said it is removing the 5-hour usage limit for verified Ultra subscribers, who can keep using Claude until they reach their weekly limit.

Existing subscribers do not need to change their plans. The change is rolling out first to most current subscribers, while new accounts keep a temporary limit until account verification completes. Verification happens automatically, and users receive an email when the limit is lifted.

The usage ceilings that remain are unchanged. Ultra's weekly limit stays at 10 times the Pro plan, and Max keeps both its 5-hour and weekly limits at 5 times Pro. Anthropic has updated its official pricing page and Ultra guide with the new names and limits.

Anthropic's Claude subscription product lead, Mike Overell, apologized for the confusion and said more improvements are planned, without giving details or a timeline.

Earlier changes to usage limits

Anthropic launched the Max plan in April 2025 and described the $200 tier as offering 20 times the usage of the $20 Pro plan when only a 5-hour reset limit applied. In July 2025, as more users ran Claude Code for long sessions, it decided to add a weekly usage limit, which took effect on August 28, 2025, citing 24-hour continuous use, account sharing and service resale. The $200 plan kept a 5-hour limit 20 times Pro's but a weekly limit of 10 times Pro, while the Max 20x name remained.
