Nvidia in talks to back Nscale's Anthropic site debt
The reported residual value guarantee would cover Nscale's West Virginia campus, where Anthropic has signed a $44.6 billion contract.
Nvidia is in talks to guarantee billions of dollars in debt financing for Nscale's planned Anthropic data center in West Virginia, according to The Information, a report Bloomberg later corroborated. The talks come in the same week Anthropic filed to go public.
Under the proposed residual value guarantee, Nvidia would step in if Nscale defaulted on construction payments, temporarily take over the facility and help find a buyer and a new tenant. Anthropic has signed a $44.6 billion contract for the first 460-megawatt building of the campus, which is expected to use Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chips.
Nscale and Anthropic are also discussing a second deal worth roughly $45 billion for another building at the site. Nscale is seeking to go public at a valuation of up to $35 billion.
Blackstone warned investors that Anthropic may receive a below-investment-grade credit rating after its IPO. Nvidia's exposure to the sector is already substantial: according to The Information, the chipmaker has extended roughly $170 billion in investments and credit support to neoclouds and large customers.
Earlier commitments and setbacks
In September 2026, Nvidia committed $1 billion in convertible financing to Nscale. The same month, after months of negotiations, the West Virginia project won state certification; runoff from the construction site has flooded nearby homes more than once. In October 2026, Microsoft pulled out of a planned Nscale site in England after grid power for it was pushed into the 2030s.
