Apple reveals 4,900 mAh battery in new iPad mini

Preorders are open for the OLED-equipped iPad mini (8th generation), which ships November 6 from $699 with Apple's A20 Pro chip.

Apple has published a 4,900 mAh battery capacity for the iPad mini (8th generation), the company's 2026 refresh of its small tablet, as preorders opened ahead of shipping on Friday, November 6. The figure is smaller than the 5,034 mAh cell in the 7th-generation model, which launched in 2024, a comparison first flagged by Notebookcheck.

Despite the smaller capacity, Apple lists battery life as unchanged: 10 hours of web surfing on Wi-Fi or video playback, and 9 hours of web surfing over Cellular.

The tablet gains an OLED screen for the first time and runs on the A20 Pro processor, the same chip Apple uses in the iPhone 18 Pro.

Pricing starts at $699 / £699 / AU$1,099 for the Wi-Fi only model with 128GB of storage, according to techradar.com. The iPad mini (8th generation) comes in two finishes, Midnight (gray) and Starlight (cream).
