EDB acquires Altinity to add ClickHouse analytics to Postgres AI
EDB said the deal aims to combine Postgres transactional processing with ClickHouse real-time analytics in its EDB Postgres AI system.
EDB announced on November 6 that it has acquired Altinity, a company specializing in enterprise software and managed services built on ClickHouse, according to datanet.co.kr. EDB said the acquisition aims to combine Postgres transactional processing with ClickHouse real-time analytics inside its open sovereign AI data system, EDB Postgres AI.
The company said the combined engines will be offered as a multi-model data layer intended to reduce customers' data management costs and support agentic AI workloads. EDB described itself as the largest commercial contributor to Postgres and Altinity as the second-largest independent contributor to ClickHouse software.
Integration roadmap targets shared catalog and access controls
EDB and Altinity plan to introduce a shared Apache Iceberg catalog and consistent access controls across Postgres and ClickHouse as part of the integration roadmap. Altinity's products and services include Altinity Stable Builds, Altinity Antalya Builds, the Altinity Kubernetes Operator and Altinity.Cloud. EDB said the Altinity Kubernetes Operator has recorded more than 108 million downloads on Docker Hub.
Altinity's engineers will join EDB's Postgres contributors and maintainers as part of the deal. Altinity has provided software and services that help enterprises run open-source ClickHouse in production environments, and EDB has positioned EDB Postgres AI as an open sovereign AI data system built around Postgres.
