Google says Googlebook detachables are next form factor

At the Android Dev Summit 2026 keynote, Google confirmed detachables will follow clamshells and convertibles; Lenovo is expected to make the first.

Google said at its Android Dev Summit 2026 developer keynote on Wednesday that Googlebook detachables will be the next form factor for the platform, following clamshells and convertibles. The company described Googlebook as spanning large-screen form factors, from clamshells and convertibles to forthcoming detachables, according to 9to5google.com.

At launch, four of the five Googlebook devices are clamshells. The only convertible in the initial lineup is the Acer Googlebook 14, priced at $899, which supports laptop, tent and tablet modes.

On Googlebook devices, fullscreen apps can open in portrait tablet mode, but the homescreen and desktop, Overview and app tray are available only in landscape.

Lenovo expected to make the first detachable

The first Googlebook detachable is expected to come from Lenovo.

Leaks about Googlebook detachable devices appeared earlier this year. In July, a leak showed a Lenovo detachable Googlebook tablet with a detachable keyboard, a kickstand and a Glowbar next to the camera, alongside a laptop smaller than the current 15-inch model.
